The ferries operating between the various prefectures in Kyushu are a reminder that you are living on an island, making them a relaxing way to travel between the towns the dot the coast between Kumamoto and Kagoshima. From Ushibuka it is also quicker than backtracking through Amakusa to get to Kagoshima prefecture. There are ten ferries a day between Ushibuka and Kuranomoto, and if you happen to miss one, take your time at the restaurant or follow the swimming fish at Ushibuka Ferry Terminal

Relax and take in the breeze on the one of the many decks of the ferry.

The first ferry departs at 640 am from the Kumamoto side, with a ferry every 80 minutes.

I recommend that you should drop in michi no eki just after ferry terminal in Nagashima-cho (Kagoshima) as you can purchase a lot of sea foods!
I can imagine the variety of fresh seafood there, being close to the ocean. Do they have sweets as well, like sweet potato chips?
