Temple twenty nine in the Shikoku Ohenro pilgrimage is the official Temple of Kochi prefecture. The statue of Kobo Daishi is called Hoshiku Daishi because Kobo Daishi performed the “Rite of Astral Festivity” (Hoshi Matsuri) here when he was 42 years old. This is where the stars are prayed to in order to drive evil spirits away and achieve a longer life. The two Yakushi statues and the bell are considered Japanese Important Cultural Treasures. To get there, catch a Ueta bound bus from Gomen station and get off at Kokubunji-dori bus stop. From there it’s about a 5 minute walk.
