Kurihama Flower World

Step into the world of spring and poppies!

Your heart will flutter along with the flowers. The day I went was just 2 days after the recommended full-bloom day, so most of the poppies were still in a beautiful state.

It takes about 15 minutes if walking from Keikyukurihama train station to reach the park. This is the park signpost, so turn into the road here. The nice parking attendants along the way will point you in the right direction.

Whether it’s looking from down or up the hill, the flowers seem to stretch on forever. Just thinking about the existence of a never-ending field of flowers makes me happy!

If you stand in just the right location and set your camera in the right place, you can take photos as if you were in a literal ‘sea of flowers’ without having to actually stand in the middle of the flower grounds.

Other flowers are in bloom too! This one blooms in different shades of purple, blue, pink and the rare white.

There were so many varieties of the poppies. Colours of the poppies ranged from pink, red, orange, yellow, to the occasional white ones. And not to mention the mixed colour flowers.

The flower train that brings visitors around the area to all the major landmarks in the park. A one way ticket for adults is 200 yen and 100 yen for children. A map is given, too, so you can plan your route. English maps are available.

Adventure Land is where Godzilla resides. A great place to bring the kids to play for a day!

Hydrangeas (ajisai in Japanese) are also famous spring flowers in Japan.

Walking down from the last stop on the flower train (Flower Bed of the Seasons), you'll be able to see this huge display that overlooks the sea.

The Garden Restaurant has a very British or French flair to it. It felt like an idyllic time, sipping afternoon tea in the garden. Indoor and outdoor seating are both available.

The herb garden where you can buy plants and dried herbs grown there.

Lavender planted around the hothouse near the herb garden. I didn't manage to enter the hothouse as I arrived after it closed.

Even the flowers along the roads are beautiful. You can really see the effort the gardeners have put into caring for them.

Upon entering the park, there is an ice-cream shop and a souvenir shop on the right, then there’s a restaurant up the hill on the left (not seen in photo).

Lavender and milk ice-cream! It really feels as if you were eating the flower, but in a more enjoyable way.

Maps are located around the Keikyukurihama train station, so you can always check your bearings before heading off in the wrong direction.

Kurihama Flower World (Hana no Kuni – literally ‘country of flowers’) is famous for its seasonal flowers – spring for poppies and cosmos for autumn and part of spring. I went just after all the poppies had bloomed and it was breathtaking. If by chance you are here during these seasons, it definitely should make its way onto your to-go-to list.
