The Kinubari-yama Course (衣張山) has a few fantastic view points, but is relatively unknown to foreigners. The starting point is the bus stop of Sugimoto-dera Temple. The first viewpoint is at the top of Kinubari-yama Hill. After a 30-minute walk along a mountain path, you’ll reach a nice residential district. Walking through it, soon you can see a sign saying “Panorama-dai” (パノラマ台). The view from here is incredibly beautiful. Sagami Bay connecting to the Pacific Ocean, the hilly, green forms of Kamakura, and Mt. Fuji (if you are lucky) are all in your sight. Please get the course map before you start walking, because this course is a bit tricky. An index of this series is here.

Fantastic view from “Panorama-dai”

Magenta azaleas along the path

A small Jizo statue (relatively new) sitting near the sign of “Panorama-dai”

There are some cozy benches near the residential district

Various wild flowers will sometimes greet you on the path

Some parts of the path are quite narrow

Old stone statues in a cave

Sunbeams streaming through the leaves of trees

Calla lily blooming near “Panorala-dai”

Nicole, go to the information desk to the right when you come out the east exit at JR Kamakura Station. Ask the staff to show you where the "Kinubari-yama" hiking course is. They will trace it on a map for you.

Another wonderful hike near Kamakura. No wonder people like living down that way. Lucky for those of us in Tokyo, it's just a short train ride away on the weekends.
