The Tanabata Star Festival is a traditional summer event that takes place at this shrine on July 7th. During the season, beautiful colorful bowls with slips of paper, and bamboo branches adorned with paper decorations create a magical atmosphere at the precincts of Kamakura Hachiman-gu Shrine. This event originated from a Shinto ceremony called Tanabata; praying to God for good harvests or for purification against sickness and disease. Later, the ceremony combined with a Chinese legend and became a star festival.
Access: A 10-minute walk from JR Kamakura Station
