Enjoy these incredible creatures at Yomiuriland's Hana Biyori

On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from June 4th until July 4th, Yomiuriland's Hana Biyori Botanical Garden will host their 'Hotaru Biyori' firefly viewing event. The garden has been cultivating the optimum environment for fireflies since 2009 in an effort to regain their numbers in the area.

Along with the fireflies glowing against the summer night skies, the event will also include 300 illuminated flower chandeliers, creating an ethereal atmosphere.

Evening admission to Hana Biyori (from 4 pm onwards) is priced at 900 yen for adults, and 500 yen for children from 3 years to elementary school age.

Getting there

Hana Biyori Botanical Garden can be accessed via a free shuttle bus from the Keio Yomiuri Land Station. The ride takes around three minutes, and buses run approximately every 15 minutes. Alternatively, the walk from the station only takes around 10 minutes.

For those who opt to drive, the venue is around 2 kilometers from the Chuo Expressway's Inagi Interchange.

I wonder if hotaru appear when it's raining?

Apparently they are drawn to the warm, humid environments, so I think the rain doesn't really deter them! Maybe if it was raining heavily, but the overall climate in Japan at this time of year is likely perfect for them :)
