Mount Ogusu is the highest point on the Miura Peninsula, providing a stunning panorama of the region. The start of the walk is less than half an hour on the bus from Zushi station, and it takes about an hour and a half to get to the top. The walk takes you along clear, well-defined paths through pleasant forest, then at the top there's an observation deck and a clearing to rest and eat your packed lunch while you enjoy the view.

Hiking Mount Ogusu
The best view in Kanagawa

Up there you get a 360 degree panorama down Miura to the south, east across Tokyo Bay to Chiba, north to Yokohama, and west across Sagami Bay to Enoshima and Mount Fuji

The walk starts at this lane next to Maedabashi bus stop, on the bus route between Zushi and Yokosuka stations

Cross the bridge and you get to the start of the trail proper

The ascent is fairly gentle

There are plenty of easily negotiated earth steps on the way up

Sunlight filters through the tall, straight trees you pass on the way up

There are regular signs along the way: Mount Ogusu is on the left here, Maedabashi on the right

And at one point on the climb up you have this view of Mount Fuji

Then near the top there's this odd tower next to an observation deck

And this regularly planted field

The view down the Miura Peninsula

The top of that spiral staircase is the highest point on the peninsula

Looking north across the golf course towards Yokohama and Tokyo

There are steps down, more and steeper than on the way up

When you get to this stream you're near the end of the hike
