If you've got half a day free and will be in the Hakone area, this museum is a must-see. I recommend going early in the morning (it opens at 9) before the crowds arrive and the grass is still fresh with morning dew. The museum covers 70,000 square meters and will take about three hours to enjoy. There are plenty of places to stop and rest along the way--benches where you can view the art, and even a relaxing foot bath area where you can remove your shoes and socks and enjoy a soothing soak. There are some big name artists represented here, but what you like will depend on your own tastes!
