Every summer, the Kagoshima Kinko Bay Summer Night Fireworks lights up the skies over southern Kyushu in one of the region’s most spectacular displays. Set against the waters of Kinko Bay and the silhouette of Mount Sakurajima (one of the world’s most active volcanoes), the show draws thousands of spectators to the city’s waterfront for an unforgettable evening of around 150,000 fireworks being launched.

The pyrotechnics display is choreographed with music and lights to create a dynamic, multisensory experience. Reflections ripple across the bay as bursts of color erupt overhead, making for a truly cinematic summer night. Visitors are encouraged to find their own favorite viewing spot along the harbor or nearby streets to take in the sweeping views and festive atmosphere.

Please note that the fireworks will still go ahead in light rain but may be canceled in case of severe weather, so it’s wise to check local conditions in advance. Reserved seating is available for purchase online, though many locals and visitors enjoy the show from free public spaces along the bay.

Getting there

The main venue is the Kagoshima Honko Port area, easily accessible by public transportation. It’s about a 15-minute shuttle ride or tram ride from JR Kagoshima Chuo Station, followed by a short walk. As there are no dedicated parking areas for visitors, using public transit is highly recommended.
