Ishikawa Takuboku was a famous Japanese poet, born in 1886 in Tamayama Village, a village now part of Morioka City in Iwate Prefecture. Ishikawa Takuboku was well known as both a Tanka (classical Japanese) and modern style poet who joined the Myojo group of naturalist poets. He later joined a socialist group of poets which led him to renouncing naturalism. Ishikawa Takuboku married and settled down in 1905 in what is now known as the Honeymoon House. The house is immaculately maintained and features poetry, pictures and information about the life and times of Ishikawa and his family. Visitors are free to wander the large house and learn more about Ishikawa and his turbulent life. The house is tucked away in downtown Morioka, and is open for viewing from 08:30 ~ 18:00 (Dec 1 - Mar 31 09:00 ~ 16:00) daily. The house is closed from Dec 28 ~ Jan 4, and each Tuesday from Dec ~ Mar. Admission is free.
