As part of Ishioka City’s anniversary celebrations, the Spring Lion Festival returns in late April during the Golden Week holiday period. This lively event brings together traditional arts, community pride, and hands-on cultural experiences.
Held at Ishioka Event Square, the festival highlights the Horo-jishi, a dynamic lion dance tradition passed down through local neighborhood groups. The day’s schedule includes taiko drumming, a multi-division dance contest for all ages, and an open stage where anyone—from kids to adults—can jump in with their own costumes (cardboard creations are more than welcome!).
Visitors can also try on traditional lion attire, participate in drumming activities, and sample regional flavors from food stalls offering Ishioka’s local specialties.

Admission is free, and the event will proceed in light rain. However, in case of severe weather, it may be canceled—we recommend checking the forecast and the official event Instagram account here for updates before heading out.
