Marukyu-shoten is a lively izakaya located on Kutchan Ekimae Dori, a two minute walk from Kutchan Station. The restaurant, like many in Kutchan, sources only the freshest seafood and local produce daily, ensuring you can enjoy fresh, delicious and local dishes served by enthusiastic staff. Marukyu-shoten features a friendly and inviting layout with tatami mat floor tables, counter seating and regular tables that can be joined for larger groups. My recommendation is to enjoy the delicious squid sashimi and salad varieties which all come in very generous serving sizes. The restaurant is open everyday except Monday from 17:30 ~ 24:00.

An Enjoyable Izakaya in Kutchan

I highly recommend the fresh sashimi platter, it is up there with the best I have tasted in Kutchan

The inviting interior is typical of most izakayas in Japan, offering counter, tatami floor and table seating

A sweet chili pork and onion dish is served as an apertizer

There is an impressive range of salads including this generous seafood salad

As usual, the chicken karage is to die for at Marukyu-shoten

The squid rings served on a steaming plate with miso sauce is an interesting combination I hadn't tried before, and it is delicious

I highly recommend the squid sashimi. Instead of wasabi, fresh ginger mixed with a little soy sauce compliments the delicate texture
