There has been a few other stories written about Hakodate and the great sights, food and facilities. In this photo story, I want to show you some of the amazing buildings that can be found there. Hakodate was the first city in Japan to be opened to the outside world near the end of the Edo era in 1854. As a result, we can see the influence in a lot of western looking buildings. If you like architecture you will find more well preserved buildings there than in most other Japanese cities. You can get there by ferry, by train and by plane from the main island of Honshu.

I didn't know it was in the plans to have a Shinkansen to Hokkaido. I used the Super Hakucho from Hachinohe when I went there. Now we can take it from Aomori cutting the travel time. There are also some sleepers from Morioka but have to be reserved well in advance as space is limited.

The pictures were great! Can really see the architecture style that is influenced by westerner. Was wondering how would the interior look like...

I can't wait until the bullet train makes it up to Hokkaido next year. I have wanted to visit this place for a long time!
