After visiting many different locations in Spring around Hiroshima city over many years to view the beautiful cherry blossoms, here is a list of my top four Hanami (Cherry blossom viewing) spots in the city. If you are looking for a traditional view, sit under the blossoming trees around the moat of Hiroshima Castle. If you are looking for great views and don't mind a short hike up the mountain head to the Peace Pagoda, or for more views of the Seto-naikai sea walk or drive up Mt.Ogonzan. If you are looking for a variety of grassy picnic areas to choose from including a good playground and food and drink stalls, Hijiyama park is a great choice. All of these places offer fantastic blossoms and are great places to enjoy a hanami picnic.

There are outstanding views from the peace pagoda over the city and out to the islands in the seto-naikai beyond (Photo: gethiroshima)

Mt.Ogonzan seen from a distance this time of year has bright patches of pink sakura trees (Photo: gethiroshima)

Hijiyama park is easy to access by street car or even a short walk from the station & offers the most Hanami options in Hiroshima city (Photo: gethiroshima)

Opposite the Modern Art Museum, many families were enjoying blossoms around the famous modern art Moore sculpture (Photo: gethiroshima)

Some areas around Hijiyama are quiet and others have stalls selling food and drink and BGM day and night during Hanami time. (Photo: gethiroshima)

Ahh I would love to go when the sakura blooms again! :3
thank you for your comments- Sakura blossoms are still in bloom around the Hiroshima area, but with today's rain and yesterday's strong winds they are fading fast- hope you are able to catch some of these beautiful scenes while they last. Their fleeting nature makes them all the more special perhaps.
