If you are looking for Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki in a fun and friendly little place, then Ichiriki is a wonderful choice. Yasumi and Hiroyoshi, the delightful owners, are the hardworking siblings who opened this little shop back in 2004 and have been continually gaining fans from far and wide ever since.
As well as their delicious signature okonomiyaki, Ichirikie has a large a la carte menu of Teppanyaki grilled dishes, Oden and more to choose from.
The first time I went to Ichiriki, I noticed the flavor of the okonomiyaki was more riche and savory than usual, and it seemed to melt in the mouth, which turned out to be the garlic powder they add while cooking. It is a delicious addition to the traditional recipe, but if you are not feeling brave, you can always ask them not to add it.
On the okonomiyaki menu, there is the basic fare for only ¥570 – layered okonomiyaki (Hiroshima-style) with meat, vegetables, bonito flakes, and you can add soba or udon noodles for a little extra. A variety of extra toppings like shrimp, squid, cheese, mochi, freshly chopped negi green onions and more are available for about ¥100 extra each. The "Ichiriki Special", a versatile combination of their very best ingredients, is ¥920 and should fulfill even the biggest of appetites.
On the a la carte menu, their most popular side dish is horumon: sauteed intestines. Other popular side dishes are spinach with butter, Ebi-mayo shrimp, cold tofu hiyayako/fried tofu with spices, fried rice, omelet and more. Popular side dishes include Kalbi beef in miso, Kimchi with Pork and SeSeRi chicken.
Drinks are very reasonable at Ichiriki – draught Kirin on tap is only ¥300, soft drinks are ¥120 and cocktails ¥450.
