It was a perfect day; the colours couldn't have been better

The temple grounds consist of several buildings, some of them overlooking the sea

Statues play quite a role on the temple grounds

500 statues of priests are waiting for you, and every single one has a unique face expressions

I could have spent hours walking past the statues and studying their faces

These statues seemed to underline the importance of nature—they were adorable

Last but not least there's a unique sacred cave which adds to the magic of this place

I had never heard about this temple before I actually went to Miyajima to see Itsukushima Shrine and Mount Misen. When I finally visited the Daisho-in Temple grounds, I was so deeply impressed that I was wondering why nobody had ever mentioned it to me. The setting of the various temple buildings is quite dramatic and I felt like I was walking through a different world.

Yes, it's absolutely magical. For me it was the highlight of our trip to Miyajima!

I love the jizo statues that line the path all the way up to the daishoin temple, the place is kind of magical isn't it?
