Mount Akagi dominates the skyline of the city of Maebashi and its northern neighboring city, Takasaki. Although a lot of this mountain's fame is owed to a car racing game, it has a little something for everyone. Technically a giant extinct Caldera, it's traversed by a network of hiking trails that circumnavigate lake Ono as well as climb to its highest point. Other possible activities include boating, visiting a beautiful temple and/or the shrines scattered around the lake, and swimming in the summer. A great location in the summertime to escape the heat, but an even better location to take in the changing colors in the fall.
