5 Spots to Get a View of Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is one of Japan's iconic sights, and many locals and visitors climb the mountain each year - 2020 notwithstanding, of course. In saying that, what if you just want to see Fuji-san, rather than climb it? There are plenty of absolutely gorgeous spots to enjoy the natural beauty of Japan's highest peak from afar, and here are five of them to consider for your next trip.

Fuji Q Highland, Yamanashi

When you've already done Tokyo Disneyland, DisneySea, and maybe even Universal Studios in Osaka, there's another theme park you shouldn't miss - Fuji Q Highland. There are several impressive rollercoasters here along with a range of other rides and attractions, but perhaps the biggest drawcard is the incredible Mount Fuji view on a clear day. If the rollercoasters are a bit much for you, try the ferris wheel - you can enjoy all of the view, and none of the nausea!

Konansou Ryokan, Yamanashi

Is there anything better than relaxing in an onsen after a long day? The answer is yes, if it comes paired with a view like this. Konansou is a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) that sits right by Lake Kawaguchi, and a number of the rooms have private balcony onsen facilities. The ryokan also has a foot bath on the roof for all patrons to enjoy, along with both public and reservable private onsen if you don't have one in your room.

Tanuki Lake, Shizuoka

Shizuoka's Lake Tanuki is a man-made body of water, but that doesn't lessen its beauty - especially when it reflects Mount Fuji on its surface. There are camping grounds by the lake, and it's also a popular spot for a range of outdoor activities like cycling, hiking, and fishing. Completely understandable, with views like these to enjoy!

Miho no Matsubara, Shizuoka

If you've ever been asked "beach or mountains?" like you had to choose one or the other, fear not. At Shizuoka's Miho no Matsubara beach, you can enjoy the seaside and a view of Fuji on a clear day. The beach was designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty back in 1922, and has long been a source of artistic inspiration for things like ukiyo-e prints.

Chureito Pagoda, Yamanashi

Chureito Pagoda is one of those places that manages to look like a real-life screensaver background, and you'll often see photos of the pagoda with either springtime cherry blossoms or the changing leaves of autumn surrounding it. Throw in Mount Fuji in the background, and you'll understand why this is a favorite pro-photographer spot.
