Early Apr - Early May 2025

Tsuruga Castle (also known as Aizuwakamatsu Castle) was originally built in the 14th century, but the current building is a reconstruction that dates back to 1965. The castle's striking black-and-white appearance, along with its commanding view of the surrounding area, make it a popular tourist attraction in Fukushima.

One of the best times to visit the castle is during spring when the cherry blossom trees are in bloom, and an annual festival takes place during this period. There are various components to the festival, including evening sakura illuminations, sake tasting, tea ceremonies, and more. Please note that the additional events like the sake tasting and tea ceremonies don't run on every day of the festival – it's recommended to check the official event website if there's something specific you want to take part in.

Getting there

Tsuruga Castle is located around 15 minutes by bus (or 30 minutes on foot) from Aizuwakamatsu Station, which is served by the Ban'etsu West Line, the Tadami Line, and the Aizu Line.
