Odo Park is one of Fukuoka’s amazing green spaces. For the first time I visited a park on the sea, where pine trees spilled out on to a sandy shore. This quiet park located in Odo is just a 10 minute walk from Marinoa City, so if you’re hankering after a tranquil picnic Odo Park makes the perfect getaway. It’s combination of a subtle sea breeze, dozens of crabs and even a hidden shrine makes this place feel like it was taken straight out of a Ghibli movie. For an authentic Japanese experience, rent a barbeque, let the kids play, sit back and listen to the cicadas.

Odo Park
A spot of seaside greenery

Wildflowers blossoming in Odo Park

The sand here is teeming with crabs

There are plenty of empty benches even on a sunny day

Plenty of people go sailing at the park

A cat in the grass guarding the Odo Daijingu shrine

The perfect spot to read a book in the shade

There are both forest and open grass spaces

The park is home to many stray cats

The view from the bay, a great photo opportunity

A jungle gym for the kids

A haunting view of the mountains

Beach meets woodland; a rare sight

Odo Daijingu Shrine - hauntingly beautiful

The shrine entrance

The park is quiet enough for a midday catnap on the shore
