In late March, I visited the Umegahara area of Wakasa Town in Fukui Prefecture with my drone to see plum blossoms. This place is located close to Lake Mikata, and as the name indicates (Umegahara means plum field), there is a huge plum orchard here. This area, which surrounds the five lakes of Mikata (Mikata-goko), is known as the top producer of Japanese plums among Japan Sea coast regions. These plum trees are not for tourists, but to be harvested later as food. However, since my drone can't eat plums, he instead enjoyed flying over the pretty blossoms which had just started to bloom. On a sunny day in early spring, it's a good place to enjoy an idyllic picnic in a rural setting!
