When you visit JR Fukui Station, you can't miss the spooky sound of the dinosaurs roaring at the sky day and night. Then you cross the street, and find Oden Ishida-Ya standing just opposite the Hotel Toyoko-Inn. Pass by the lines of piled-up sake barrels and through the noren curtain, then you'll smell the delicious aroma of oden, a traditional Japanese simmered and seasoned food. Office workers enjoy sake and food at the counter after work, and on the tatami-mat floors customers relax in groups. This is a good old Japanese restaurant and bar, quite opposite to modern and stylish drinking places that youngsters love, but the food is excellent! Everything I ordered was delicious and priced reasonably. You can just drop in casually here and you'll be warmed body and soul. It's open from AM11:00 to midnight, 365 days a year.
