The Niwatori Kojima are a couple of small scenic islets off Hakatajima Island on the Shimanami Kaido. Overlooking them is a beautiful campsite with ships of all kinds cruising past, and a good swimming and rock-pooling beach. For information, tent rentals, and payment, go to the Hakata Michi no Eki.

The Niwatori Kojima islets off Hakatajima Island

Parking spaces for the Niwatori Kojima Campsite and Beach

The campsite is shaded by trees and flowering shrubs

Minimal but clean and well-maintained facilities

Ships chug by in the channel just beyond the campsite

This channel was once the base of the Murakami Suigun pirates who dominated the Seto Inland Sea

The Niwatori Kojima islets with the road and cycling bridge to Oshima Island

The beach below the campsite is sandy and secluded

The Niwatori Kojima make a tempting magnet for adventurous swimmers

The rocks have pools with shrimp, anemone and other marine life
