On the 3th floor of Terminal 1, Narita International Airport, there is a place that should not be missed if you have a flight from the airport. It is the Nippon Origami museum. The art of folding paper or origami is a traditional and famous art of Japan. The Nippon Origami museum features 400 pieces of origami, from a simple crane to a tiny crane that was made under a microscope and also must be viewed under a microscope.
I liked the field of flowers display which is filled with tiny origami flowers like tulips, daffodils, and more. The flower field is surrounded by trees and filled with butterflies.
Another display which is beautifully arranged and detailed is the amusement park, with castle, Ferris wheel, merry go round, even a large whale, and completed with happy children. Not far from the amusement park display is a Cinderella display which has several paper origami dolls in pleated dresses. Cinderella running away with her loose glass slipper and her pumpkin carriage is there as well. There are also various exhibits of cranes from one or two cranes to several which are folded from a single sheet of paper.
Inside the Nippon Origami museum’s shop, there are origami videos, books and origami paper sets with instruction booklets that would be a nice gift for children and craft lovers. They also sell Japanese desserts, colorful candy and many kind of souvenirs .
This Nippon Origami museum at Narita International Airport is a branch of the main Nippon Origami Museum at Kaga city, Ishikawa Prefecture, which was established in 2001 and has over 100,000 pieces of origami on display. Admission fee for the main museum is 500 yen, but the one at Narita International Airport is free of charge.
