Close to Hachinohe, you can follow the coast round from the Ashigazaki lookout to the Tanesashi lawn along the Promenade, a 5km path that takes you through a diverse range of captivating scenery. There's rugged, rocky coastline, a long expanse of soft, sandy beach, then finally a cool forest of tall trees, some of them sprouting from fissures in huge rocks. Every step of the way there's lush greenery and colorful flowers, and the Promenade ends at the Tanesashi lawn, a grassy expanse overlooking the ocean.

Tanesashi Coast Promenade
A relaxing coastal walk through a diversity of scenery

The start of the Promenade

There can be some strong winds coming off the sea at times

Bright flowers and greenery add color to the walk

The path sometimes follows hard by the rocky shore

The path is separate from the beach: I followed the beach

Looking inland from the beach

It's a long, long beach

All along the Promenade the rocks are covered with greenery

This big rock seems to be popular with seagulls

Here the path takes you into a shady forest

Trees have grown right through some of the large rocks

A short side path takes you to a small cave with a miniature shrine inside

The forest is lushly green and full of flowers

The end of the Promenade, and the start of Tanesashi lawn

The long expanse of lawn, a good place to walk barefoot
