Kenritsu Koizumigata Park in Akita is located near Oiwake Station (15 minutes by train from Akita Station or 25 minutes by car). It is tucked away in a forested area and is home to the amazing natural beauty that Tohoku is famous for. Near the park you can also find the Akita Prefectural Museum and the Edo period Nara Family house, a historical gem of the area. The park itself is home of a rinsen-kaiyu style Japanese garden, a crystal clear blue koi pond, and a collection of Akita indigenous plant life. This is a serene location just north of Akita City that is beautiful all year round.

In autumn the park is amazing with the changing of the leaves.
From the viewing deck near the entrance of the park you can get a great view of the surroundings.
A creek that feeds the koi pond winds through the park highlighting the artistic design of the park's layout.

I spent a year in Akita and totally missed this! It is hard to pick a favorite pic, but I do love the reflection of the autumn leaves off the pond in the first scene. I look forward to more of your articles and awesome pics, Dale!
