Imagining wide, open spaces in Japan can be a chore, but anyone who has stepped outside of Tokyo proper will know that open space abounds. And space is good, especially when travelling with children.
In Chiba Prefecture, about two hours away in Futtsu City lies a sprawling vastness of green known as Mother Bokujo. Filled with farm animals, petting zoos, amusement and adventure rides, flower viewing, eateries and handcrafts, Mother Bokujo simply blooms with fun for the family.
Every year, Mother Bokujo holds its annual Autumn Festival. This event features the running of the sheep, daily chances to feed the animals and even a chance for children to reenact the story of the Three Little Pigs. Adults can try their hands at catching a runaway piglet (it's actually a lot of fun), riding the barrel rodeo, riding the flying fox over the farm, and taste testing hand made sausages.
For more information on times and costs for some of these activities, do check out the Mother Bokujo website.
